Environmental
Guided by international standards, we act in order to minimise negative impacts on the environment and continuously improve our activities in respect of environment and climate protection.
Local management system ISO 14001
We are introducing ISO 14001 as a local management system; in 2024, 85% of our employees are working in organisations that are certified to this standard.
Environmental protection
All KROHNE employees are sensitised to environmental issues and receive appropriate awareness training to respect and protect the environment. Our environmental management system promotes and supports environmental protection in setting targets, defining, and implementing measures and ensuring continuous improvement in the following areas:
reduction of CO2 emissions (see chapter “Carbon Footprint reduction & Net-Zero strategy”),
increasing energy efficiency,
using renewable forms of energy,
safeguarding the quality of water and reducing water consumption,
safeguarding air quality,
encouraging resource efficiency,
reducing waste and disposing of waste in the proper way and
responsibly handling substances that are dangerous to human beings and the environment.
Product End of Life/Product Recycling: WEEE Take-Back Scheme
As a producer of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), KROHNE complies with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (2012/19/EU).
In each EU country where KROHNE has a sales company, we comply by declaring quantities of EEE put on the market. To facilitate end of life handling of our instruments for our clients we have established contracts with local take-back schemes (TBS). When repair or upgrade of the end-of-life product by KROHNE Service is not possible, you may contact our TBS partners(link to document on DLC) for proper handling and recycling.
Packaging
The specifications for the design of our packaging are summarised in our packaging procedures guideline: it contains therequirements for our suppliers with regard to packagingandthe requirements for suppliers of packaging components.
Regulated substances
This chapter summarises all information on the handling of regulated substances at KROHNE.
Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and Substances of very high concern (SVHC)
KROHNE products comply with REACH regulation (EC) 1907/2006 and directive WFD 2008/98/EC. For products, either a REACH self-declaration or a SCIP factsheet can be found on theKROHNE Downloadcenter:search your product in the “Product name” field and choose your document.
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
KROHNE is actively involved in the discussion on the use of PFAS, both directly and indirectly through national industry bodies and associations such as ZVEI, FIEEC, FME and GAMBICA. We support the continued use of solid, non-volatile PFAS polymers as part of a strict recycling policy if no other alternative materials are available.
In parallel, we are reviewing our entire product portfolio to determine the level of PFAS use and investigating alternative materials and processes that would allow us to remove or replace PFAS in our products.
Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS)
KROHNE complies with the European, Chinese and other RoHS directives regarding the restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
The detailed information about RoHS is available in our EU declarations of conformity. They and other RoHS documents can be accessed via theKROHNE Downloadcenter: search your product in the “Product name” field and choose your document.
Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)/PBT5
As declared in our self-declaration, our products nor materials used in the shipping or packaging of our products do not contain the chemicals included in the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Section 6(h). The self-declaration can be accessed via theKROHNE Downloadcenter: search your product in the “Product name” field and choose the “TSCA/PBT5” document.
