Overview

Hydrogenation in palm oil production

Measurement and process control of hydrogenated palm oil

Hydrogenation turns oil from a liquid into a solid or semi-solid substance and makes the oil more stable: this is achieved by bonding a hydrogen atom with the double bonds of fatty acid chains. Hydrogenated palm oil is solid at room temperature and white in appearance. The oil is heated in a reactor, and mixed with Hydrogen and a nickel catalyst. After hydrogenation, the catalyst is filtered out and the oil is cooled in a heat exchanger, producing refined bleached deodorized and hydrogenated palm oil.

The beauty of the H250 is its purely mechanical design. The H250 can be adapted at any time, as plant requirements change, without interrupting the process, and offering analogue flow measurement without auxiliary power up to full digital integration as a transmitter in a fieldbus system.
