Reverse osmosis for brackish water desalination in desalination

Reverse osmosis is a water purification technology that uses semipermeable membranes which cannot be penetrated by larger molecules. Sea water reverse osmosis works at pressures of up to 70 to 80 bar and is one of the main technologies used for sea water desalination. Flows, pressures and analytical values need to be measured in order to monitor and control the operation of the membrane modules within their design limits - this is essential for a long service life. The following water treatment steps use RO-modules that generally require lower pump pressures because of the lower concentrations of salt in brackish water.
